Can I use an old direct tv dish to get local channels without service?

The people who lived in the house that I'm renting before us ordered direct tv so there is a dish on the roof. I was wondering is it possible to use that dish as an outdoor antenna to get signal for local channels?|||No..but you could try an outdoor HDTV antenna (preferably with an amplifier) to get local channels. You have to be fairly close to the TV towers, or you will get NO picture. Remember, ALL off air broadcasts by antenna or cable are in 1080i NOT 1080p.. 1080p is only seen by a PS-3 or a Blu Ray HD DVD player. Some stations do not even make 1080i if they are broadcasting multiple channels.... (Such as 4, 4-1, 4-2, etc.)|||most likely no. you still need to purchase programming to receive your channels|||Of course not.|||No.

All you have to do is install an outside antenna.|||No, you would have to get DirecTV service
