Okay so my dish tv just shows info not available for ever channel and than goes blank.?

The last time it did this we just unpluged the tv and turned it back on and it worked but not this time. Does anyone know how to fix it w/out calling dish?

Much thanks :)|||I'm assuming you still get TV programming... just the guide or the show info isn't working...?

Depending on your receiver, you can check around for a reset button. It'd be small, just big enough to get a paperclip through. You'll have to bend the paper clip, and hold it against the button you hit back in the hole. This may do a reset on your receiver unit. Good luck.

Does Direct Tv or Dish mess up during storms?

I have WoW cable and it's so crappy.. It keeps messing up so I want to switch to direct tv or dish but someone told me that during storms it messes up and u have to go fix it every-time.. Is it true that satellite tv services mess up from slight storms or snow?|||Yes, during a heavy downpour it will "mess up". Though not all the time. However, you do not need to do anything to fix it, once the storms pass it will be able to find a signal again. In snow, you may have to remove it from the dish after accumulation. There are certain sprays you can apply to the dish to lessen this.|||Worrier is right; heavy rain and storms cause a loss of signal (no, you don't get a credit for no service). We finally had it with DirecTV, and switched to Verizon FIOS service. It works flawlessly.|||Some time during heavy storms.

My current cable subscriber has be come too costly. Can somone compare Direct TV and DISH TV?

Dish runs commercials claiming that they have more HD channels and are cheaper than DTV.

It really depends on the package you pick.

Most start at 30.00 a month and go up from there. Where they add costs depends on how many channels you want and whether you want HD and a DVR.

Both have excellent web sites and you can pick what you want, you don't have to buy, it's just like window shopping and you can compare them to each other.

I am debating switching from Dish Network to Direct TV?

Does anyone have perspective on the value and experience of Direct TV vs. Dish Network? I have had Dish for years now and am tired of the high prices. It seems as though Direct TV has more HD channels and my local channels in HD, which Dish does not.

Has anyone either made the switch or currently use Direct TV?

Any info is greatly appreciated.|||If it's a cost issue, DTV is generally more expensive but has better quality. If you want to sign up with DTV they do have good discounts for new customers as long a you pass the credit check.

HD access fee - $9.99/month

leasing fee for 2nd and each additional reciever $4.99/month per reciever. No leasing fee on first reciever.

Lowest package you would have to start with to get free HD reciever is Choice Xtra $57.99/ month

HD/DVR recievers available for $99

new customers get $18 off for 12 months

so it would be $57.99 + $9.99 + leasing fees for DTV -$18 per month for a year.|||I switched when I moved. I had Dish Network, now I have Direct TV.

i prefer Direct TV, but there isn't really that much difference. The one area where Direct TV blows Dish Network away is in customer service. Anytime I have ever had a problem Direct TV has handled it perfectly.|||i can tell you i made that switch a few years back and im much happied with directv then dish. I was always going down with dish and the bill was never the same at directv its cheaper and more reliable.|||ya i have had directv for about 10 years now and enjoy it. im addicted to NFL sunday ticket, and they do have more HD channels, which is sweet. if you have a HDDVR, they now offer ONDEMAND. it works differently than cable, but it still is cool, you download it from the internet on the DVR. but i have had them for a while and enjoy it.|||Had both.

Dish network does not work well on the coast.

The wind blows......pppfffttttttttt.

No TV.

Which really pissed me off for the price I was paying.

And I really didn't get any more from it than I was getting from the local cable company at HALF the price.

Then I moved and had Direct TV.

I REALLY liked Direct TV.

More stuff, easier to surf, easier to find shows to TIVO, which is the best invention since white bread.

In a storm you CAN lose signal but it wasn't too bad.

I'd say for the money.....Direct TV is your best bet.

And it's really almost as cheap as cable is these days.

Can you use a router given to you by sky tv without having a sky tv satellite dish?

My friend was with sky tv broadband but has now switched. I now have the router but am with virgin media. Do I need to have the sky tv satellite dish in order for the router to work or does it work as a regular router|||Hello this is a easy question to answer :P most likely u will be able to use this router! just take a look whether u are using cable or adsl broadband. then check the router if it the same requirments as ur internet then yes u can use it :P

Is it possible to get Fuel TV on Dish Network?

Is it possible to get Fuel TV on Dish Network?|||Yes, Fuel TV is available with Dish Network Dish TV.

Also installation is free right now and so is a DVR-HDTV Upgrade. Packages start at $9.99/Month for 100 digital channels. To get Fuel TV you would need a package in the $30/month range.

I just bought a house and the sellers left behind their Direct TV dish. What do I do?

Should I call Direct TV to come retrieve their left behind equipment? If so, will this cost me anything? On the other hand, can I sell it?|||the antenna is abandoned, DirecTV will not want that back.

SOME receivers are leased, I OWN one, and lease two. Technically, using the system is called theft of service.

It is NOT up to you to call DirecTV and have them send you are prepaid shipping box, it is up to the PREVIOUS subscriber.

If you decide to keep the system, DirecTV will charge you $25.00 for a new SIM card plug the monthly fees. If you decide to subscribe to DirecTV, they will send out an installer that will collect up the old receiver, bill DirecTV as a disconnect, and an install...

If you decide NOT to subscribe, just put the box in the closet. if the previous subscriber cancels the service, DirectTV will want the receiver back, but not the antenna.|||The equipment is rented, Therefore if you sell it you will have committed theft.|||Sell it, but I doubt you will find a buyer because direct tv give every customer a brand new one. I work at a thrift shop where we get 3 or 4 direct tv receivers every week. Can't give the things away, so we toss them in the trash.

Is a CYFRA+ receiver compatible with a sky tv dish?

I have a bos and card for CYFRA+ the Polish TV. I have a sky dish, will it work with the dish or do I need one of theirs?|||Go for Polsat instead! Only joking.

Cyfra+ is the polish subsidiary of the famous French broadcaster Canal+.

Sky use the Astra satellites, whereas Cyfra+ uses Astra and Hotbird.

There should be no technical incompatibility, but you may find the dish is too small and pointed at the wrong angle- I think you may need an 80cm dish but I haven't found anywhere that tells me whether I'm right or not.

It should be relatively easy to change the dish though, you should just need to unbolt the old one and replace with the new one- no new wiring should be needed.

Does dish TV offer a channel with aerobic workouts?

We are new to dish TV, are there any fitness or workout channels, which might have workouts you can do at home?

Dish TV or Direct TV which would you recommend?

I am looking to get satellite tv. And am not familiar with either.|||Neither go with comcast i have direct tv, it it bleeds into other channels, lose reception when the sky is blue, but it also depends on the guy who installs it for you, you might get a good install.

Can a tv sat dish pick up the UHF hdtv signals?

I moved into a house that had an old Direct TV sat dish mounted outside. I do not want their service but was wondering if I go to the trouble of connecting it to my TV will I get any UHF digital signals? Where we live now , my indoor UHF antenna is next to useless.|||If it works at all, it will only be because you have a random hunk of metal stuck in the air. You could do better with a cable attached to an aluminum lawn chair.

You'll be happier with a proper outside TV antenna. You could mount it near the satellite dish and use the same RG6 downlead.

Use the web site below to guide you as to what type antenna you need to get the stations in your area.

---------------

Andrew's answer is quite incorrect. A parabolic satellite reflector and its LNB are designed to accept a specific range of satellite frequencies and reject all others. Any antenna, whether it's satellite or anything else, only receives unintended frequencies because any piece of metal stuck in the air can capture some tiny level of signal voltage and send it down a connecting cable. Such off-frequency signals are so weak as to be nearly, if not totally unusable. That's exactly what you should expect in this example.

The answer to your question is the one I've given above: don't count on a satellite antenna for over-the-air TV reception. Get a proper over-the-air antenna.|||I think you need to use another dish to get free-to-air satellite channels, which in the US aren't plentiful. The dish you are talking about is I think proprietary to DirecTV hence you can't access free-to-air channels beamed on satellite with that dish. Try lyngsat.com to see the free-to-air channels in your area.|||No, that won't work. The frequencies are different.|||A dish can pick up any signal. You need a receiver to isolate the correct signal you want

I am trying to switch from Dish TV to Direct TV due to cost. The Direct technicians say I cannot get their?

service because the antenna is more than 150 ft away from the house. Has to be this far because of tall tree obstructions. Is there any device that can boost the signal thus allowing the antenna to be located far away?|||Wouldn't you think that dtv would have that kind of device instead of losing a customer.

Dtv isn't much cheaper than Dish by the time you pay for installation and stuff.

Is there a way to cut down some trees to make a clear view of the sky. Just curious.

Here's a site that has all kinds of cables and adapters

Subscribed to Dishnetwork can I use directTV receiver to get dish network on TV in another room?

I just subscribed to Dish Network and it's only hooked up in my living room (works great). My question is can I use a direct TV receiver to get the same channels that are in the living room to play on the TV in my bedroom?

Or do I need another dish Network receiver to get TV in my bedroom?

I'm not sure how any of this works any advise would be greatly appreciated.|||You need another Dishnetwork receiver. Only their receiver will work on their network and can be authorized by them. DirecTV receivers are totally incompatible.

Unable to get dish tv signal in malaysia with astro antenna?

Dish tv is beamed from satelite NSS 6, positioned at 95 deg E. I found the azimuth and elevation for my latitude and longitude. I am using Astro dish and LNB to catch the signal. The specs of the LNB is wirthin the range for Ku band, and within the range that Dish TV needs. Yet I am unable to get the signal. Can anyone help? Has anyone got success doing the same in Malaysia. This works fine in other countries; does anyone know what I might be doing wrong?|||Most here in this forum live in North America! At the bottom of each Yahoo Answers page is "International Answers." How is it possible to get cable channels on a tv without cable or a satellite dish?

TV- no cable is running from cable outlet on wall to TV/VCR/DVD.. NONE. TV receives "cable channels" (weather/espn/disney etc) via built in rabbit ears on TV. NO satellite dish on premises. How? TV is 7 years old. Is there such a thing as a built in satellite receiver?|||I don't believe it is possible to receive satellite without a dish to receive and focus the signal. It is possibe the rabbit ears a picking up a signal "leaking" from a nearby cable line (this would still be a stretch). Are there any other cable connected to the tv (such as rca, s-video, dvi etc.)?|||Hi,

Does anyone know how to connect a third tv to a 2 tv dish network dvr receiver?

Is there a way you can split the connection so you can watch something on the third tv that is also being seen on the first tv.|||Hi Art,

You can use a high frequency splitter and feed the picture to two television sets. They will both get the same picture. You can't watch two different shows.

Go here for an example of high frequency splitters - http://search.cablestogo.com/Search.aspx鈥?/a>

Norm|||If the DVR is anything like sky in england, then on the back of the box there should be an RF outlet, that is already supplying your second tv, you would just need to pick up a splitter which my gave up to 8 or so extra RF outlets, it basically splits and amplifies the signal, run some more cable to the third tv and tune in as you would a normal channel

Have DishNow Prepaid, why is it so difficult to get info from Dish TV, to see if DishNow equipment can be used?

Now Prepaid receiver %26amp; satellite dish can be used w.Dish Flex$ I paid $195 to use Dish Now for 1 week %26amp; find out that it is obsolete now!|||The receiver that you have is most likely a standard receiver and is only difficult because you have bad credit/don't want to sign a contract.

You should try cable tv if it is a problem as they will accept you unless you owe that particular cable company money.|||it doesn't qualify for flex sorry, its not obsolete, if you own it, call and set up a cash n carry account, no activation fee, if they are wanting you to pay an activation fee - hang up and call back . you only have to give your social security number . no new customer perks but no commitment either, your hardware is not obsolete, the pre pay program is...195.00 is just a little more than retail for the equipment you have....its still currant|||I hope that you are getting your $195 back, now I can really say "don't be fool you with the AD's" I guess you really do get what you pay for ! so why not pay a few more $$$ and get what you pay for and more. go to www.directv.com

Also if you are still in your contract, you will also have to pay the early termination fee, which can be hundreds of dollars.

Which is better cable service for television the dish satellite or the direct tv satellite?

I have satellite dishes on the outside of my building that tenants have left and was wondering what is the better cable dish or direct tv?|||I have Dish. I used to have cable. I like Dish much better than cable (for lower cost and more programming). Dish does lose signal during really bad rainstorms, but in the desert (where I live) those are few-and-far-between.

As for Dish vs. Direct TV ... there are a few things on DTV that Dish doesn't have that I might like, but it's like, "the grass is greener on the other side of the fence", more than anything else. I think the basic costs are about the same.

I just had a problem with my Dish receiver last week after 3 years of use and they replaced it at no cost (not even shipping). The replacement came in 2 days and I was 'up-and-running' in less than 1/2 hour.

Do Direct-TV and Dish Network satellites have to face in the same direction?

I recently moved and was told by Dish Network that I have no line of site. I was told by a friend that Direct TV has more satellites in orbit so I might be able to receive service through them. What do you think?|||roughly in the same direction. directv has more satellites up there but the majority of the newer ones carry hd programming. the satellites orbit above the equator aimed back towards north america and if you look at the numbers of the sats (in the setup screens) the number tells you how many degrees above the equator that satellite is. usually the dishes will face in a south southeasterly direction. additionally, what you may or may not know, dish and directv share some satellites. i found this out when working in a directv call center, although we were told to never tell customers this. as far as a line of site, the satellites for dish might be in a different position and at your location there might be a building or tree that is blocking the signal whereas a directv dish might be positioned a bit different and get a good lock. one thing to consider also is that you can stand beside your dish and lets say you have one sat at 110 degrees and one at 119 degrees. doesn't sound like a whole lot, but those few inches equate into several hundreds even thousands of miles between the satellites.|||Since both companies' satellites are in orbit around the equator, then they both have to point generally south. Other than that, the dishes are at different latitudinal degrees, and trees and other such obstacles could prevent you from getting one or the other.

Or the first installer was lazy and just didn't want to do the job.|||Try satbeams.com. You can choose a satellite and see its footprint. In North America you will probably be most interested in Ditectv7S at 119w longitude and Echostar XI at 110w. Of course, line of sight concerns may have more to do with obstructions than satellite coverage.|||yes mine follows the sat.

Help programming Dish from my old tv to my new tv?

Ok so I got a new TV today and I wanted to plug my old dish to the new tv. My dish didn't have a receiver because my main TV in my living room did, so we only needed one receiver for two TVs. But the TVs weren't mirroring each other. My old TV was just connected via the regular cable, cable (the one that has a thin copper wire in it) I hooked it up to the new TV and ran auto program but nothing happened. Thanks in advance|||OK, I'm a little confused here. TV's don't have satellite receivers built in. So, what you must have is a dual tuner satellite receiver connected to two TVs.

In that case, the TV was connected either by coax cable (the round stuff with a screw on connector on the end) or A/V cables (yellow / red / white cables).

If you are using coax, then connect this to the antenna input of the TV, set the TV for antenna tuning and scan for channels. The TV will usually need to be set to either channel 3 or 4.

If you are using A/V cables, then connect them to the appropriate color inputs on the TV and select that input. The input number should be labeled by the connector.|||Hi, Need to know more about the new TV. What is the make and model of the new TV. Make sure the New TV is set to cable in.

What are the perfect picture settings for a 55 inch vf55m 120 hz vizio tv with Dish Hd?

I was wondering if anybody knew how i could get a clear and high quality picture on my new tv. I just need the settings for that kind of tv with dish hd.

Thanks everybody|||Umm - your question is kind of confusing on what part your having trouble but I'm going to try.

For dish network to get hd you need three things

hd tv

hd receiver

hd programming

(you also need hdmi wiring from the receiver to the tv, hdmi is NOT included in a standard install)

You have the tv, you have the receiver (I hope you are correct but you didn't include the receiver model so I can't double check), I don't know based on your question if you subscribe to hd programming or not, and I don't know if you have hdmi wiring.

IF you have all four of the above in place then you would simply press menu on your dish remote then go to

-system setup

then go to

-hdtv setup

once there you will need to change the tv type to 1080 and change the aspect ratio to 16x9

That tells the receiver you want to display in hd....

I hope that helps and I got the question answered you were asking for.

Also I try to return the favor on here, I asked for a cheap place to get hdmi wires and someone on here was kind enough to give me a good answer. So if you haven't gotten hdmi wire yet for your set up I highly suggest you check out

www.monoprice.com

I usually don't buy online like that but since wires in a box store will cost 50-70 bucks for each one it will be more than worth your time to check them out. I got 4 6ft hdmi wires (since I have multiple hd devices) and I paid less than 8 bucks a wire. I also go optical wire for 4 bucks. I ended up with 4 hdmi and 3 optical cables and still paid less than I would have paid for a single wire in a box store. read their customer reviews (it's the only reason I ordered) and I have to say I still am happy I decided to go to them.

How do you set up your 2nd TV for Dish Network?

I have a TV in my bedroom that we got and since we had Dish installed in both the living room and bedroom, I wanted to hook it up. The installation guy gave me a remote #2 and coaxial cable to connect in that room, but as I'm coming to find in plugging it in and setting it up, I can't get the remote to work on the TV or the TV to get channels!! PLEASE HELP!! Thank you!|||The coax should be connected to the "TV out" from one of the dish boxes. the other end of the coax goes to the "Antenna In" on your TV.

On the back of the dish box is a switch for TC channel 3 or 4. see what it is set at and tune your tv to that channel.

Remote 2 will then control the dish box. This is usually a UHF remote that can work through walls and such. keep tv on ch 3 or 4. change station with dish remote|||Call Dish network and have them send out an installer......

Can i change my sky tv dish to a freesat receiver?

We have a satellite dish receiving Sky. However I would like to change to Freesat. From what I have read online this should be quite simple, however I read something about either the dish being digital or analogue may have a implication to wether the dish needs to be moved. Is this still the case? If so I have no idea how to tell what type of dish it is? Also how much is reasonable to pay for freesat with about 500 gig capacity hard drive. Thank you in advance.|||There are no analogue dishes any more, the dish is definately digital or you won't be able to view Sky who stopped the analogue sevice over 10 years ago

There is no need to move the dish and is just a straight swap with receivers

A 500 gig capacity hard drive will cost 拢160 upwards|||The dish is compatible with both Sky/freesat broadcasts and will not require moving.

www.satbuyer.co.uk/freesatboxes. If you are upgrading to a freesat+ box which is capable of recording programmes ? do you already have Sky+? if so just do a straight swap box for box.

If not you will have to replace the original single LNB ( low noise block) that is the lump on the end of the dish arm, with a twin/quad LNB as the freesat+/sky+ boxes have 2 tuners each requires a cable feed so that you can watch one channel and record another which means you will need to have 2cables attached to each receiver . I suggest you get the4 way Quad LNB in case you want to expand your system in future

Can you have Dish Network TV and Comcast High speed internet at the same time legally?

Ok, well my family has Dish Network for satellite TV and we were wondering if we could get Comcast Hi speed internet. Its available in our area, but we were wondering if we would break out contract with Dish if we got the hi speed from Comcast.|||Hi joe noone this is Mike Houston of DISH Network Executive Office. I was going over your post and I wanted to let you know you can have your DISH Network service and get your high speed internet Comcast without violating your contract with us. I would also like to say we do bundle with other companies, I will send a link so you can see what we have in your area.|||I fail to see any problem with that. I have Dish Network and was going to get Comcast until the lady told me it wasn't available for my location. I live in the sticks out in the country. However it is available with in a mile of me. Really don't see how it would have anything to do with anything if you have both. Because your Dish Network comes via satellite and Comcast comes phone line or cable. So why would there be any problem?|||It is possible as I use a bandwidth of my cable TV for my broadband Internet, The question is the cost? My ISP is Bigpond and Cable is Foxtel, and my land line phone Telstra, but I only get one bill for all 3, they used to be (are) subsidiary companies run by Telstra? My account comes from Telstra?|||Yes, you don't have to bundle your services or anything

How to solve Dish TV, Airtel TV DTH Setup Box STB start up blink flashing problem with power on?

Me with DISH TV and my friend with Airtel both faced same problem few days ago. Whenever we give power to setup box STB, it starts blinking and only after long time it starts.

In dish TV we change the following capacitor with ratings 1000uf 10V to new 1000uf 16V or 1000uf 25V (25V capacitor is recommended for permanent solution).

In airtel STB change the capacitor with ratings 1500uf 10V to new 1500uf 16V or 1500uf 25V (again recommend 25V).

Both DishTV and Airtel STB has two capacitor with same ratings as I said above. In most cases only one capacitor needed to change. This capacitor attached on STB SMPS circuit board, it is the small board on which STB's power cord attached. You can take this small circuit board to your electrician to change above described capacitor or you can change your self if you can do. The damaged capacitor may look some bulge type, you can easily recognize the damaged capacitor. The capacitor in both STB has approx 1 inch height cylindrical shape, read ratings to recognize easily.

How can I mount an 18" TV dish on my window?

I can't mount a TV dish on the roof where I live. Ideas are greatly appreciated!|||THE EASYEST OPTION IS TO CALL A LOCA AND SEE IF THEY CAN INSTALL IT FOR ABOUT 30 BUCKS. BUT IF THATS A PROBLEM TRY MOUTING IT ON THE WOOD SURROUNDING THE WIDOW, IF IT DOESENT PROVIDE ENOUGH SUPPORT, IMMEDIATLY AFTER THE WINDOW ENDS THERE SHOULD BE A 4x4 INCH FRAME OF WOOD WICH WOULD PROVIDE MORE THAN ENOUGH SUPPORT. REMEMBER THAT IT MUST POINT IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION, IM NOT 100% ON WHAT EXACTLY THE RIGHT DIRECTION IS BUT LOOK ARROUND AT OTHE BUILDINGS WITH DISHES AND POINT YOURS IN THE SAME DIRECTION, ONCE INSTALLED IF THE RECEPTION IS POOR, ADJUST IT SLIGHTLY TILL IT GETS BETTER, GOOD LUCK|||just put the mounting bracket on the window cabinet(the wood around your window)with the screws provided to mount it.|||just ask your service provider duh!|||try mounting it on a tree near ur house.

Is dish tv and tata sky reception quality better than your previous cable connection?

The Quality of reception of signal is too good to believe and the sound too..i am using it in my home its cheap comparing the number of chanel you can watch. i give thumds up for dish tv and the tata sky. Installing Dish TV - which is a better place roof or a pole in the side of the house?

My only concern bout installing it in the roof, is when it snows how to clean it, if it is in a pole in my yard(facing south) it is easier to clean. Or is there any other option to handle snow days when mounted in the roof?|||On wood structures, dishes attached there may have movement when the seasons change because of moisture %26amp;/or frost heaving or expansion/contraction due to heating cycles.

This causes for me, 2 seasonal periods (about 2 days each) when the dish is slightly mis-aligned and pixel-ates the reception. Not horrible, but a tad annoying.

Where practical, a cement anchored post (set below the frostline in your zone) would provide the best alternative, if all other factors are equal.|||From a reception perspective, it makes no difference if it is mounted on the roof or a post. What matters is line of sight to the satellite. As for cleaning, unless you have a telescoping pole, I don't see how mounting on a pole makes cleaning easier than mounting on the edge of the roof.

The first thing that came to mind for cleaning snow out of the dish was some type of heater. If you can keep the dish above freezing, snow will melt and that is all you need. A simple Internet search reveals they actually make heaters specifically for satellite dishes.|||I have mine on the roof and every winter when snow is expected I use a very long painters pole with a rag taped on the end and I dip it in vegetable oil, the snow does not stick to the dish.

For any wave, v = f位, speed = frequency times wavelength. So f = v/位

= 76.9 MHz.

I want "cable" TV, but Mediacom is EXPENSIVE. What can you tell me about Direct TV & Dish Network?

I don't know much about either Direct TV or Dish Network, but their prices and channel selection look amazing in comparison to Mediacom and I'm wondering if people who have Direct TV or Dish Network are satisfied with their service. I also need to know if you have to have an active land phone line for either to work, because I just use a cell phone. Also, if you don't get the DVR devices to pause/rewind live TV, can you still connect a regular VCR to your TV and record programs? Any other general information you can give me about other cable options would also be much appreciated. Thank you!|||I have had Dish for about 5 years now. I'm happy with it. Yes, you can record programs with your vcr. You also get an all-in-one remote that controls everything except a DVD player. You do not have to have a land line phone. If you want to order a PPV movie or event, you can call it in, or order on their website. We order a PPV movie about once a week (we ordered two today, Failure to Launch and Jarhead) via the internet, and it's always on within a couple minutes. It's an all day ticket too, so you can watch the movie over and over. We had some problems recently with the dish not receiving signal. We called them, and they were going to send out a repai guy. It would cost $90 up front, but they said we could get a repair service plan for $3.95 a month, and it would cost only 25 for the repair man. We signed up that day, he came the next, moved the dish, and we cancelled the service plan the next day. They said we can add the service plan anytime we want. We pay about 50 a month for our package, and that's only because we have to pay extra for our local channels. But, if you can pick up locals with an antenna, you wouldn't need to pay their 7 bucks a month for them.|||aside from the crdit check to start it up, getting locked into a contract which they will force you to pay if you leave early, and the boxes they will make you send back then charge you for anyway. What is the difference between DirectTv and Dish TV?

Which one is the better?|||The difference, well they each have pros and cons, dish seems to give you more as far as installed rooms for ur money. Directv gives you more advanced receivers, more channels, they even have rights to programs you no longer can find on regular television, plus there is the NFL SUNDAY TICKET, which is the best sports program out there, and only DIRECTV has the rights and the money to even bid on it. DIRECTV also now has DOonDemand, which is awsome, plust gamelounge where you can play games using ur remote. Cons, Dish network channel selection, menu, guides, suck, the interative crap on thier receiver is so behind versus directv interatative menus. Directv cons, It seems lately everything is coming at a price, meaning they are getting greedy, which technically is something they can afford. That's pretty easy and understandable isn't it?

How to get Wireless cable tv for dish network?

I have a upstairs room that has no cable jack what can I do to get cable tv with dish network. or how much does it cost to run a cable jack to a room?|||You could get a wireless video extender to extend A/V from a box that has coax available, to that room.

I cannot say how much it would be to run coax, but should not be a whole lot.

How do I unlock a Dish TV child lock?

I'm sick of good movies being locked, is there an easy way to unlock this kind of child lock? It's a four-number code.|||well you need to know the code

If this doesn't work try the reset code 0000 or 1234|||If your parents set the lock, talk to them about it.

If you are an adult with your own account, call the provider for assistance.

Can you buy dish tv or other satellite tv by the day?

Need satellite tv for a camp 10-20 days a year and do not want to pay for a full year.|||No, but you can get an RV kit and find a local satellite installer to set it up here: http://www.sathookup.com/satellite-netwo鈥?/a> to help you install it.|||You can get Prepay Dishnetwork systems.|||If you are willing to pay for the set-up, dish, and set-top box, I am sure there will be no issue.

A Camp is considered a "professional" site (not consumer), so different rules (and monthly fees) apply.

Can you cut out commercials on DVRs provided by Dish tv programming providers?

I know that you can fast forward through commercials on a dvr from the Dish providers, but I'm wondering if you can completely cut them out and get rid of them when you save the show so that they will be gone if you want to watch the show again. I presently have a dvd recorder with a hard drive which allows me to do this, but I would like to know if you can do this with the dvrs provided by dish companys, particularly Dish Network.|||No.

Your DVD recorder has some simple editing software built in that lets you do this. None of the Tivo, Dish, or TimeWarner DVR's that I have seen or used have this feature.

Keep in mind: a DVR's mission allows you to time-shift shows. It was NOT designed for permanent storage so it does not have features like your recorder.|||The concept of the dish dvr's is supposedly the same as regular Tivo, but I'm not sure about networking capability.

If you can network to your computer with it... download Tivo desktop (or what ever your dish company uses) and load it on your hd temporarily. Then use a program called Tivo Extractor on it. Then use a video editor on it--you can find free/cheap versions all over the net. Then you can burn it to a good disc to play in a dvd player.

All Tivo Extractor does is change the video format from being tivo only to something dvd players can play.

I did this a few times, but haven't had anything to transfer in a good while now. Not positive it will work with a dish branded dvr (Tivo makes them not the dish company).

If you go to Tivo.com and look up the community help forums, there is a section on there for dish owners (that use dish branded boxes)

Why does a TV Satellite Dish have to face South?

There are more than a handful of satellites in the sky that practically cover every part of the earth.

Why then does a TV satellite dish have to face south to catch TV signals?

What's stopping these companies from making their signals available for all directions?|||TV satellites are all in geosynchronous orbit over the equator. That's necessary so that they appear to be in one position. If you're anywhere in the northern hemisphere, your dish antenna has to be pointed at some southerly direction toward the equator. The actual azimuth bearing depends on which satellite you need to receive.

TV satellites don't transmit in all directions. Their transmitting antennas are directed at a specific "footprint" in their target area. For example, Dish and DirecTv serve the U.S., with different transmitter beams covering different segments of the nation.

If the transmitted signal was broadcast in all directions, the power level of the signal would be too weak to be useful. Concentrating the signal into a tight beam allows it to be received on the surface from a distance of some 22,000 miles.|||Not all TV satellite dishes have to face south.

Yours does because it is a K band system (like Direct TV uses) via a satellite in a geostationary orbit.

Geostationary orbits can only be accomplished with equatorial orbits, and since you are in the northern hemisphere this means the satellite will always be south of you.

Very few communication satellites use polar orbits, or any orbit inclined out of the equatorial plane for that matter, to prevent the need for constant reaming of the receiver dish.|||Because you are north of Texas (where the satellites are in space) to get signal.

Best option is to get cable: http://www.sathookup.com/charter-cable.p鈥?/a> if you don't have line of sight needed to obtain satellite signal.

I received an automated phone message for Dish tv that I don't have.Should I be concerned? ?

The message asked me to make a payment within the next 5 days to avoid a late fee.I called them up and asked them to verify my phone and address.Someone used my phone number with their address.Dish tv said they would remove my phone number for future calls.Do you think I need to be worried or anything?I asked them for information on the person using my number, but they said they could not disclose any information.|||Dont worry about that dude...

Its just ****** Telemarketers.. If the same number calls you more then 3 times a day.. You can actualy sue them..

just make sure you tell them to remove your name %26amp; number from their list and that they **** off.|||I would still call the number back and tell them you are not a subscriber. The first answerer could be correct, but then again somebody may have given them a wrong number. Nothing is hurt by checking up on it before you get a bill in the mail.

How to get GameCube games to play with a DISH Network TV?

It's all set up correctly, I know that for sure because I used to be able to play my GameCube when we had DirectTV.

But since we switched to DISH, I can't get the games to show up on TV, it's just static.

Please help?

Thanks :)|||You plug in the gamecube you normally would,(connect red white yellow cables then plug into the wall), then use your original remote to change to the channel you usually would. If the normal remote doesn't work, then open your tv's menu, and go under the channel section and look for the channel to connect it to.|||The only thing I can think of is that the console is no longer connected to the television; different service providers have absolutely no correlation to compatibility with systems to television.|||You need to find the right outlet.

Direct TV, can you get the internet through the satellite dish?

I live out where there is no cable or DSL hard wired into the ground like most neighborhoods. Although I do have direct TV (satellite dish) and am able to get reception. The kind with 500 channels or whatever. Would I be able to get internet through the satellite dish? Or does the internet have to be hardwired to my property?|||direct tv is a one way data stream so no internet is possible yet.

but with technology it could happen in the future

Dish TV destroyed my DVD recorder. Who can I go to for help?

I sent my DVD recorder to dish by mistake, instead of their receiver, when I canceled service. Upon discovering the error, I called. Dish tv stated it is their policy to destroy all non dish equiptment. No notification. No compensation. There was no atempt to contact me to return it at my expense. NOTHING! End of story. Who do I go to to get resolution? Is there an outside agency that police these satelite providers?|||I get why your mad but you should be mad at yourself. They didn't steal it. You mailed it to them ! Ive see a video of their receiving center, its almost 100% automated. A human doesn't even touch them until they are disassembled. Don't get me wrong, I mean no disrespect, but you should accept responsibility for this, you mad a pretty big mistake.|||With all the complaints about Dish Network, DirecTV, Comcast, Time-Warner, Charter and just about every other TV service provider you can think of, what's a TV viewer to do?

I guess you could go back to rabbit ears, but you'd probably find something to complain about with those, too!

|||Sounds to me like this is rather criminal. I'd start with the Better Business Bureau and consider reporting it to the police.|||The question is: how do you prove that you sent them a DVR vs any other box (say a DVD player or a Comcast set-top box, etc.) or that even that DVR was working or had any value?

It is your responsibility to send them the right box. I know it is not what you want, but we do learn from our mistakes.

Can I use a Direct TV satellite dish to get broadcast digital television?

I have a Direct TV satellite dish on my roof but no longer use their service. Will it work for as a regular TV antenna for the DTV in 2009 with a converter box?|||No.|||Only if the account is active.

Or does the internet have to be hardwired to my property?|||You cannot with the dish you receive TV with. You need a separate dish, wiring, boxes, and service for satellite internet.|||Yeah its called Hughesnet or something like that. Call DirecTV and they can help. It is satellite based so it has to be hooked in like your satelite dish. I think its pricey though.

Can my neighbor spy on my computer/phone/cell phone/ etc with dish tv?

My neighbor is so interested in what I do because I do not discuss my work. He made several comments about being a fly on the wall etc. Today I noticed he put a sattelite TV dish just outside my apartment. Should I be worried? How can I prove he's spying on me?|||No. Stop watching so much TV. The only way he could spy on you is if he were to physically plant cameras or other recording devices inside your apartment. He would have had to been inside your apartment to do it. In other words unless he works for the CIA or FBI, your fine.

The only thing that is technically possible is if you have wireless internet in your house then he could possibly monitor your network but that's a stretch.|||you seem like a really uptight person.

Are there any other satellite tv providers other then direct tv or dish network?

I live in a pretty remote area in central Florida and I do not have the option of getting cable (which I prefer). I have looked into and know people who have both direct tv and dish network, I am not terribly impressed. I also am not interested in watching TV through my PC. Does anyone know of any other service or provider that might be more worthwile?|||I doubt that you'll be impressed with any of the others, either. At least, I'm not.

http://tv.about.com/od/usasatelliteprovi鈥?/a>

DISH and DirecTV are called DBS (Direct Broadcast Satellite) systems because they're in the market specifically to provide a multitude of channels and services from a single satellite. There are many other satellites which also carry television programming, but they're not available for subscription. Basically, you need your own dish and receiver, with the capability of changing the aim to pick up different satellites, and preferrably an electronic locking system that zeros in on the optimum signal strength of that satellite. Many of the satellites' program content is also scrambled, and the encoding changes monthly to prevent unauthorized decoding. Such systems are a lot more expensive than subscription service, but can offer much more versatility of content, too.|||As the other poster mentioned, you aren't going to be any happier with the others either. I would suggest Directv myself, but that is up to you.|||I would suggest Direct Tv myself.

Neighbor put direct tv dish in my garden?

While I was away my neighbor put his direct tv satellite dish in the middle of my garden.

He has it on a metal pole, and he dug a hole and poured cement around it to anchor it, but it's in my yard, in the middle of my garden, and they refuse to move it.

Can I get in trouble if I pull it out of the ground and throw it onto his own lawn?|||Pull it down.

I would. Its on your own property. So it should not be there.

He can not sue you for destroying something that was on your property. Was not meant to be there.

Because if he brought that information to light. He would be charged for trespass, when installing it.

Pull it down, u have every right.|||What nerve! Wow.

If you own the place, he has tresspassed onto your property and given you a free dish.

A word of advice. Don't aggravate him as he sounds like a nut. In other words, don't just disconnect it or pull it out of the ground. Let the authorities handle it. You must have a by-law department, or police department who can help. Good luck with that. Yikes.|||Wow, that's crazy. If you have the map of your property and can show that the dish is definitely on yours I would call the installing company and let them know that they installed equipment on your property without permission and they need to come take care of it .|||No, but if your neighbor is physically stronger than you then you run the risk of getting your butt kicked.|||Notify PD of your intentions and to advise them of trespass by your neighbor....then do your George Washington thing on the pole.

What is the best viewing distance for a 42" plasma TV for the TV feed we get in India thru Tata Sky / Dish TV?

I have seen on the net that for HD feeds, this could be as less as 12 feet. How about the standard TV feed that we get in India through any of the DTH operators (Tata Sky or DishTV)?

Is the distance same for plasm and lcd TVs?|||Wow - so many different answers.

I used the viewing distance calculator and it came up with 4.7 - 6.6 feet for that sized screen.

4.7 feet - gives you what THX recommends so you have a 36 degree viewing angle.

6.6 feet is the gives you a 26 degree angle. This matches the back-row of a THX certified movie theater.|||12 Feet is OPTIMAL....it gives you the LARGEST size of picture and you don't see the separate pixels in the picture as they blend together...

That's why it's optimal....you TRY to sit as close to 12 feet if you can, but you also don't measure it out with a tape measure either...Because 13 feet is just as good as 14 or 11 or 17 feet if it's your FAVORITE chair to sit in....|||Minimum 15 feet and maximum 22feet. Please go through the product brochure, you will find the details. The distance between the TV and the Eyes must be at least 15 feet in case of both LCD and Plasma.|||the sum of the dimensions of the LCD TV give the viewing distance

add length+Breadth=Viewing Distance

Do I need a digital converter box if I have dish tv?

I have a non digital tv, do I need to have a digital converter box if I have a satellite tv service?|||If you want to just watch TV from the satellite provider, no. Their box is the "digital converter" in that case. It will provide analog A/V or RF your TV can display.

If you want to watch TV from OTA as well, you will need a digital converter box also, unless your model of satellite receiver includes a digital OTA tuner.|||no you do not since it has a digital decoder tv tuner built into the receiver.

How do I hook up a Dvd/vcr combo player to tv using dish network?

We had it hooked up correctly until my little son unplugged everything! There are no rca cables with the red, white, yellow. The dvd player was hooked directly to the tv and the tv obviously to the dish receiver. Now I cannot get it hooked right again for the life of me. The dish picture will not even change over to the dvd. Any ideas?? Much appreciated.|||The cable configuration is as follows. Run the cable from the dish to your Satellite receiver. Run the cable from the TV port on the Satellite receiver to the in port on your DVD/VCR unit. Hook the out ports from your DVD/VCR unit to your TV.

Some Satellite receivers have the ability for two TVs to run off of it. If this is the case, run a cable from the Satellite receiver to the DVD/VCR combo, another to the TV. Now Hook you your DVD/VCR combo to your TV.

How does Direct tv or Dish network work in Boston?

I live in the city of Boston and wanted to know how Direct tv or Dish works in the city.Does it lose connection alot?|||usually if you live in a city and in a high rise building they put one dish up and just send a lead to your apartment its really complicated but that's what they do they have one Receiver for each channel and sent it to you on one line or they might amplify the signal from the dish to your apt and give you a Receiver . either way its all good

Can you stream live tv on Dish network remote access for the iPad?

I have it all set up, but all I can figure out how to do is change the channel on my tv. In the app descriptions pictures it shows someone streaming an NBA game. Am I missing something? How do I stream tv on my iPad with dish network?|||What you are seeing is either the person using Dish Online, or the new ViP 922 HD DVR from Dish, most likely. For more info on the Vip 922 HD DVR, check out the link below. Hope this helps.

Can I easily replace my Direct TV satellite dish with a new one?

I have a dual LNB Direct TV satellite dish, and I also pay extra for HD channels. Yet I did not replace the dish with a new one, and I only recieve about 8 HD channels. I am thinking about buying one online for around $30-50 and installing it myself. I was wondering if I was able to simply switch out the dish, or if I had to call up Direct TV and have them install it.|||If you feel comfortable with it there's no reason you can't install the dish. Use the tone and bar offered from the satellite menu to peak the dish for best performance. If you don't feel comfortable call a local dish installer that deals with Direct TV.

Can I buy a moniter to conect to my dish tv?

My 27 in tv is starting to crap out, just wondering if I could get away with just a moniter?|||There are TVs which have no tuners and therefore are less expensive. One of those, if it has connectors that match your sat box will do the job. Be warned that a computer monitor will probably not have a compatible connector. Also, computer monitors frequently make for poor TV viewing because they are not designed to specs needed for TV viewing.|||You need the tuning works too!

Which satellite facility is the best -- dish tv or tata sky ? i want to buy either one of them ?

Plz tell me which one of them is the best in terms of satellite facility -- dish tv or tata sky as i want to buy either one of them . which one is the best in terms of cost, transmission facility, addons. like tata sky is giving free 60 movie free in its family pack of rs 200 .does dish tv is also providing such facility. PLZ GUIDE ME .|||tata sky

Can any one explain the ill effects of no. of Dish TV antennas installed next to your bedroom window ?

Can anyone explain the ill effects of no. of dish TV antennas ( almost 8 dish antennas) installed next to our bedroom windows (appx. 10 meters).|||Zero. The dish antenna is a passive device--it does not radiate anything. Your cell phone is much more of a hazard to your health.

This applies to the common parabolic receiving antennas used with broadcast TV services. There are some other services that actually feature 2-way links with the satellite, but those are rare and most likely don't apply to you.|||None whatsoever. The dish is a RECEIVER, not a transmitter. The satellite transmissions are bombarding your window whether there are dishes nearby or not.|||No ill effects as such. But install the antenna in such a way that nobody touches it accidentally, as it might create static charge during monsoon or when there is breeze.|||None what so ever, they are simply detecting the signals in the atmosphere already. There is no change in your exposure to EM fields as a result.|||Normally no such ill effects has been reported but try to avoid.

Is it possible to just get DV-R for my Dish TV?

We have 2 TVs in our home with Dish Network. I have the smallest package (19.99 a month) since I don't watch much TV. I need DV-R because my favorite show is on Tuesday during my small group. Is it possible to add it instead of getting a larger package that comes w/ it?|||yes you can. go to http://www.dishnetwork.com/receivers/dvr鈥?/a>

Does the Sharper Image jumbo touch Pad Remote work well with Dish TV or Direct TV?

I was thinking about buying one for my boyfriend and he has either Dish TV of Direct TV (I can't remember which) but I was wondering if anyone has used it before and can it perform all of the functions the normal remote for satellite tv can? I would greatly appreciate the help!|||No. Unless you buy a high end remote it will not have functions for your satellite tv or DVR functions

Is a career with Direct TV or Dish Network as home installer a good or bad idea?

Thinking about a career change. Anyone out there have any knowledge or experience about home installation jobs with Direct TV or Dish Network? Pros and cons? Starting pay and future pay? Hourly, salary, or some bidding system? Some info on training length and difficulty? It would be in North Dakota. Thanks!|||I wouldn't consinder that as a career, especially nowhere. Maybe as an upgrade from a first job, but as prelude to a more career oriented job.

I would at best get doing other low votlage installing, such as phone, network, home theater, alarm, and antenna., with contract satellite install as a part of that.|||I would consider long term effects on any career. While you're young a life guard job sounds great but when you're old and still need to work do you really think they would hire you. Installing things are great until your back starts to hurt whenever you bend over to pick something up...... I could go on and on but you get the point. Sooooo, consider jobs that you can still do when you're old or get a good education so that you can build a good retirement account.

Does direct tv and dish network share each others satallite dishes and the same satalltes?

I was told by supervisor for dish network that direct tv and dish network can use each others satellites ( for a fee) dishes. And that they share the same satellites up there in outer space. Is this true? Please I need an answer to this question.|||The 1st answer is right on the money. They could, but don't!|||They in theory could, but in fact don't.

They do share satellite slots, each with their own satellites, or satellites leased form 3rd parties.

What to do now with direct tv satellite dish?

Our landlord took down our satellite dish because he hired people to fix the roof of the garage. If I call direct tv to come and set it up again at different part of apartment will they charge us again?

BTW: Have protection plan for direct tv.|||Most likely Directv will charge you, though it may be less with the service plan.

Your other option is to hire a local satellite installer: http://www.sathookup.com/satellite-netwo鈥?/a>

Pricing is here: http://www.sathookup.com/satellite-tv/st鈥?/a>

They can usually come out faster and do a better job, but they might be like $20 extra.|||I would call the dish company and ask them nicely and explain the situation and I'm sure rather than lose your business they will send someone out and install the dish. However, if they want to charge you for it then you can threaten to get another dish company to come out and get the free installation in several rooms with all the goodies they offer you for changing over and I think once you tell them that if they don't send someone out to do this then to cancel your subscription right then. Like I stated before, rather than lose your money I think they will be more than happy to install the dish. I know when you move they often encourage people to leave their dish on the property and that they will come to the new home and install a new dish there. Hope this helps and hope you get it fixed soon.|||kool, try a courtesy call to direct and explain your situation, chances are they will reinstall for free just to keep you a satisfied customer - work with them and they shall work with you -

Can i split lines off of slim line direc tv dish?

I just built an addition on my house and I want to hook up about 6 recivers on my one slimline direc tv dish is this possible?|||Yes. Using a Multiswitch after the dish this is possible.

This is a Multiswitch...

http://www.satpro.tv/index.asp?PageActio鈥?/a>

It's also the one I would put in. It's HD ready for the latest dish from Directv. By using this one you can us it with the older dish and not have to replace it when you get the new 5 LNB dish.

I like using them in the acttic. This way you can hide the wire's if at all possible.|||yes you can if its before the receivers

How can I get 1080 quality tv through dish network without paying for it?

I just bought a sanyo 1080p 42 in tv and have dish network. Is there a converter box to put between my receiver and tv to make my tv picture better without having to pay the extra monthly charge for hd programming?|||There is no need for a converter. You TV automatically upconverts the 480p from DISH to 1080p. However, (as you can see) there is only so much an upconverter can do. If you want to watch HD, you need to pay for HD programming ori nstall your own off-the-air antenna.|||The only way you are going to get HD quality Dish Network is with a HD receiver. There is no other way. Off air channels are fine, but you aren't going to get an off air channel in true HD.

What is the difference between signal intensity and signal strength in case of signals from tv dish?

signals received from tv dish are measured on the scale of 100,by the receiver.|||Should be the same thing. The 0 - 100 meter is an arbitrary scale that really doesn't show you much other than the peak when you have the dish pointed correctly. Real meters would be calibrated in dBm.|||I think strength is how much is being received and intensity is either how much is being sent, or something else.

A TV satellite dish is designed to receive waves of wavelength 3.9 meters What is the frequency of the waves?

A TV satellite dish is designed to receive waves of wavelength 3.9 meters What is the frequency of the waves it broadcasts?

Give you answer in MHz = 106 Hz.

|||Frequency(Hz)=Speed of light/Wavelength

f=(3.0E8)/3.9

f=76923076.9231Hz=76.92MHz

Should I replace my cable TV with Dish TV? The Dish cost less, but will I have quality issues with Dish TV?

I can save close to $100 on my internet, phone, TV cable service if I switch from comcast to ATT. My wife thinks dish TV will give us signal problems and doesn't want to convert. I want to give it a try. Any opinions?|||You will get excellent picture and audio results with Dish. If the system is properly installed, you should only experience a short outage during an extremly heavy rain storm. And storms like this are rare. The outage will last for only a few minutes. You will hear many stories about satellite going out during light storms or cloudy days, this is due to the dish not being properly aligned for maxium signal or an obstuction is blocking the signal. I've had Dish for eight years and have been selling and installing it for four. I would never go back to cable.|||Stand by to lose signal quality during a rain.|||I have Direct TV - the signal is disrupted whenever there is the littlest storm. I wouldn't switch unless you don't care about that.|||well dish has one problem.. when it is raining heavily the signal breaks up and you shows wont come in.. i had it for a long time..and it was great except when it rains.. and im talking pouring down like crazy rain.. any other time it was fine

but how often doest it really pour down.. i liked the dish.. 100 plus channels for 20 bucks a month when i had it, think we had got a special on it tho..|||we liked Cable except when it went out and took several days to come back on

we then liked DISH until we had to pay for LOCAL CHANNELS

we LOOOOOVE direct TV

good luck|||You may lose signal quality under some conditions. I'm in the same boat but I have a different issue: dish says it supports four TV sets, but can the four sets be tuned to four different channels?|||Why get the dish - Better picture unless you have all digital cable or HDTV cable, lower cost if you stick with it, power source is limited to your home and your generator if you have one (works when power is out elsewhere in the cable system), offers channels not available on cable

Why stick with cable - local cable news if any, no dish to blow away in high winds, works during heavy rain unless heavy rain is over their satellite dish site, easier to discontinue without hidden charges (stories are told here of bills that keep coming), no new equipment to buy because you rent it

Make your own choice|||About 2 years ago I first tried Directv. The picture was phenomenal... until it rained or there was even heavy cloud cover. Then I lost the signal until the weather cleared up. I next tried Dish Network because they lied to me and told me I wouldn't have the weather problem with their system. I did!

Satellite Tv works great as long as the weather is clear. I can't imagine it working in Seattle.|||I have dish TV and live in California the only problem i have is late at night you get tons of infomercials because the programing comes from the east coast. I have never had a problem with losing signal as many others have stated but we rarely get bad weather here.|||YOUR WIFE IS RIGHT!!!

You will always have issues with your t.v when the weather goes bad.
